Infant Baptisms normally are celebrated on Sundays after the 11:00Am Mass. A required instructional meeting for expectant parents and parents of the newborn is conducted by the parish staff. The presentation includes the history of Baptism, the responsibilities and faith commitment of the parents, the meaning of the signs and symbols of the Rite of Baptism and the structure of the ceremony. Parents are requested to make necessary arrangements by calling the Parish Center Office.

In the years since the beginning of Vatican Council II, leaders of the Church have emphasized the deep personal effects of the Sacraments. In the Sacraments we are in closest union with the Risen Lord, Jesus Christ. As a help for us to sense the experience of His presence, changes were suggested to make the recipient more a part of the action.

Our Baptism preparation requires the parents of newborn babies to face the reality of their child's entrance into a worshipping community, i.e. the Church. Having a child baptized when parents never worship in the community is artificial and dishonest.

Canon Law states that all parents are to be interviewed before a child may be baptized. The Purpose of this interview is to help parents come to an awareness of the significance of this Baptism event in the faith-life of their family and to help them celebrate it in the best possible way. The interview should discern in the parents at least a minimal effort to live the Christian life. The guideline spells out what a Catholic Christian life-style includes: 1. acceptance of the doctrine of the Creed 2. regular sharing in the worship of the Church 3. personal prayer life 4. concern to show charity to others 5. a life-style influenced by belief in the Lord Jesus 6. a commitment to the way of life to which the Lord invites us.

Adult baptism requires the completion of the R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program .
